In response to the recent alleged sexual assault and robbery involving three crew members from Virgin Airways, the government is set to enhance police visibility along the Martintar strip in Nadi, where the incident reportedly took place. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, emphasized the significance of the Martintar strip, known for its vibrant restaurants and bars, and reiterated the importance of ensuring its safety.

Mr. Gavoka expressed his commitment to addressing concerns related to safety in the area, stating, “We may have to look into reinforcing the policing of the area.” He plans to bring this issue before the Cabinet to discuss increasing law enforcement visibility in Martintar.

The minister underscored that enhancing police presence could significantly contribute to maintaining the area’s reputation as a popular destination, especially for young people who frequent its lively establishments. He remarked, “More police presence would really help in this area,” reinforcing the idea that proactive measures could help prevent similar incidents in the future.

This initiative reflects a responsive approach by the government to ensure the safety of both locals and tourists, paving the way for a more secure environment in high-traffic areas. By taking swift action, the government demonstrates its commitment to public safety and its determination to reinforce community trust.
