Engadine Dragons Set to Forge Rugby Ties with Fiji in 2025!

The Engadine Dragons U10 team from Australia is set to embark on a groundbreaking tour to Fiji in 2025, which is anticipated to foster a significant partnership between junior rugby league teams in Australia and Fiji. Collaborating with the Muaira Junior Rugby League (MRL), the Dragons aim not only to add excitement but also to contribute positively to the development of junior rugby league in Fiji.

A key achievement of this partnership includes securing over $11,000 in sponsorships. These funds will be used to supply new playing kits for Fijian teams, thereby enhancing their participation in the junior rugby league scene in Fiji. The Muaira JRL currently manages four junior teams, and this initiative is part of a wider strategy to engage local communities and nurture young rugby talent at the grassroots level.

This collaboration is set to culminate in a gala event in June 2025, where the Fijian teams will compete, representing a significant advancement for the sport. The initiative has also garnered international interest, with a New Zealand team considering joining the 2025 tour. This cross-border collaboration aims to not only expand the sport but also strengthen connections between Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand.

To support the growth of rugby league in Fiji, Dean, the head coach of the Engadine Dragons, will spearhead a development plan that includes a series of virtual coaching courses from December 2023 to January 2024. These courses are designed to enhance the skills of Fijian coaches and improve the local sporting infrastructure.
