The 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa, is set to serve as a significant platform for important discussions, according to Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Mata’afa. She highlighted that the week-long event will especially focus on the involvement of Commonwealth youth.
Prime Minister Mata’afa emphasized, “They are central to our discussions on prosperity, fairness, and sustainable development, and through the people and women’s forums, we have the chance as leaders to listen to these vital perspectives.”
The meeting commenced yesterday with a panel led by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua. She noted the importance of women leaders from conflict-affected areas engaging with one another, stating, “It is encouraging because it signifies that despite differences between nations, women can converse and collaborate.”
CHOGM will host representatives from 56 nations across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. The meeting aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and address common challenges to enhance the well-being of future generations.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is also set to participate in the meeting.
