Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru took the initiative this Christmas Eve to visit villages in Vanua Levu, where he distributed Income Generating Project (IGP) grants to local communities. His visit included significant engagements with the Nailou Youth Club in Nailou Village, where he presented a $5000 grant for beekeeping. This grant provided the youth group with essential equipment such as double honey boxes filled with bees, beekeeping tools like smokers, hive tools, and safety gear.

In addition to the IGP grant, Mr. Saukuru also delivered sports equipment to promote physical activity among the youth. He emphasized that these efforts are part of the ministry’s commitment to empower young people, especially in the remote regions of Fiji. “This visit reflects the ministry’s commitment to empowering young people in even the most isolated parts of Fiji,” he remarked, emphasizing that resources are aimed at fostering sustainable livelihood and encouraging sports participation.

The Minister’s journey to Nailou required a 30-minute boat trip from the mainland, showcasing the lengths the ministry goes to reach underserved communities. This commitment continued with a visit to Sawani Village, where Mr. Saukuru presented a solar-powered freezer to the Sawani Youth Club, enhancing their ability to generate sustainable income.

Mr. Saukuru’s outreach extended further to Bua, where he met with Anasa Kaitoa, a dedicated young farmer from Naruwai Village. Anasa, who successfully obtained an IGP grant, will receive critical farming equipment to improve his agricultural operations. His resilience in farming has significantly contributed to his community’s food needs, demonstrating the importance of supporting rural youth.

Overall, Mr. Saukuru’s visit highlights the ministry’s ongoing dedication to youth empowerment, sustainable development, and community building across Fiji. By investing in young entrepreneurs and athletes, the government is fostering resilience and self-reliance in these communities, paving the way for a brighter future.

In summary, this visit illustrates the vital role of youth engagement in Fiji’s development and the positive impact such initiatives can have on rural communities. Through these programs, the government aims to create a sustainable environment where youth can thrive personally and professionally.
