Empowering Youth: 47 Students Graduate as Community Leaders in Nadi

A group of 47 students from Nadi, who received training from police officers, are now ready to assume leadership roles within their communities.

These students, hailing from various schools in Nadi and Sigatoka, participated in a two-day Blue Light leadership training and practical skills development program held at Korovuto College in Nadi.

The training was organized and supported by Blue Light, a registered charity based in New Zealand that collaborates with police to offer various youth programs and activities. Blue Light aims to minimize the chances of young people becoming offenders or victims of crime while promoting stronger relationships between the police, youth, parents, and the community.

On Wednesday, the 47 students celebrated their graduation from the program.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa encouraged the graduates to become change agents in their respective schools and communities. “Keep a close view of all that you have learned. We gathered from various parts of Nadi because we see your potential as young leaders,” SSP Vaisewa stated.

He warned the students about the risks posed by some of their peers who engage in dangerous activities, including drug use, sexual offenses, assault, burglary, and theft. “This creates a negative image of our youth today and presents a significant challenge for our beloved Fiji,” he said, urging them to steer clear of such paths.

SSP Vaisewa emphasized the importance of recognizing one’s worth and potential. “Know your potential and understand the importance of your choices. Be aware of your capabilities, regardless of what others may say. You were chosen for this program to be agents of change,” he concluded.
