Empowering Women Through Sport: $5000 Boost for Fiji Bulikula Rugby Team

The Ministry of Women has provided a donation of $5,000 to the Fiji Bulikula Women’s Rugby League Team to support their preparation for the upcoming 2024 NRL Pacific Championship.

Minister Lynda Tabuya, who is responsible for women’s affairs, highlighted the significance of promoting respectful and healthy relationships within sports as a critical step in combating gender-based violence.

“It is essential that we instill in our young athletes the principles of respect, maintaining healthy relationships, and integrity, both on and off the field,” she stated.

Citing the well-known words of late South African President Nelson Mandela, who said that sport has the power to change the world, inspire, and unite individuals, Ms. Tabuya expressed her belief that the Fiji Bulikula team would represent their nation with pride while also acting as role models for young women throughout Fiji.

She extended her best wishes for the team’s preparations and reminded them that the entire nation stands behind them, ready to support and cheer them on.
