Empowering Women Through Community Initiatives in Rewa

Women’s groups in the Naqarani district, Rewa, are marking significant progress in their endeavors, as highlighted by Adi Asilika Lalawa, a leader from these organizations. While their women’s gatherings are not new, they have not always been as active as others.

In previous years, the members of these women’s groups attended the Women Expo, gaining valuable insights and experiences. This year, their organization is being revitalized. Currently, about 30 women actively participate in local initiatives, though only a few groups consistently support the organization. Every Monday, they convene to work on various projects and also provide financial assistance to their groups.

Despite various challenges faced by women due to negative beliefs and attitudes, they are determined to overcome such stereotypes and enhance their business aspirations.

The women’s group recently received initial support from the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), which was acknowledged with gratitude for their contributions. They visited the community of Noco a few weeks ago, offering assistance with necessary resources and tools.

It was noted that the agricultural initiatives they had started a few months earlier are now bearing fruit, with improvements to their resources and practices. ADRA has provided support with farming equipment, seeds, and various food supplies.

Currently, they are working diligently to ensure the success of their efforts to improve the quality of food produced. Their primary goal is to enhance their community practices and local store supplies.

The women have dedicated a plot of land at their community center for agricultural purposes. Future investments and necessary support from their women’s association will ensure the growth of their community as they continue to seek improvements in their areas.

While they have begun cooperating effectively, it was evident that not all women are integrating well into the organization; however, new support is encouraging a stronger presence of women in the community.

They have been advised that it is beneficial for the women’s groups to cultivate a strong organization that extends knowledge and skills among all participants while fostering connections with other groups in their area.

This collaborative effort is seen as critical to enhancing their collective skills and facilitating the growth of their communities.
