Empowering Women: The Rise of Local Initiatives in Rewa

Women in Naqarani, Rewa are making strides in their community with the support of the Women’s Development Agency. The group’s efforts to improve their operations have been highlighted by Adi Asilika Lalawa, the head of the local women’s organization.

The women have continuously participated in the Women Expo in recent years, where they have gained valuable insights to enhance their projects. This year, the group has revived its initiatives following a period of stagnation.

Within the community, around 30 women are affiliated with the organization, though only a few have ongoing projects. Every Monday, members gather to work on their crafts and receive support in the form of 50 sewing machines to assist their collective efforts.

Despite facing various challenges, including societal views, the women are determined to overcome these barriers and focus on building a positive business mindset.

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) has recently offered crucial support to these women, deeply appreciated by the members. During a visit to the Noco area weeks ago, they requested assistance with tools and equipment.

As of now, many women have received assistance with food items, helping to bolster their ongoing projects. The main objective of this support is to enhance their property and community stores through improvements.

A portion of the land near their community center is being utilized to enhance operations. This initiative aims to ensure that all women’s groups are empowered, alongside addressing broader needs for infrastructure and resources.

The women have faced difficulties in their endeavors but remain resilient, and they are beginning to see the positive changes resulting from their hard work. They are encouraged to seek partnerships with other organizations to expand their knowledge and strengthen their capabilities.
