Empowering Women: The Rise of Community Initiatives in Noco

Women in Noco, Rewa have been actively working to improve their community through various initiatives, led by Adi Asilika Lalawa, president of the local women’s group. Although the women’s organization has a long history, it has not always been vibrant.

In recent years, the group has participated in the Women Expo, gaining valuable knowledge and insights. This year, their organization is undergoing revitalization. Currently, about 30 women from the community are involved, although only a few provide continuous support.

Every Monday, the women gather to collaborate on their crafts. They also provide 50 items to support their organization. Many women face various challenges in their endeavors due to societal attitudes, but they are now determined to change those perceptions and move forward with a business-minded approach.

Recently, the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) made its initial contributions, which were greatly appreciated. ADRA visited Noco a few weeks ago, responding to requests for assistance with tools and resources.

The impact of their support has been evident, as the women have begun using the materials provided. They are working diligently to yield results from their efforts. The primary goal is to enhance their community and improve the local market and services.

Furthermore, a plot of land has been designated for use by the women’s group to elevate their initiatives. The organization has expressed that not all women have equal opportunities; however, those who do are making significant contributions as assistance continues to flow into their group.

The women’s organization advocates for mutual support, emphasizing that collaboration can lead to extensive learning opportunities and growth. They are looking forward to strengthening their skills and capacities through shared experiences with other women in the community.
