Empowering Women in Policing: Highlights from the Tournament Celebrating Resilience

The two-day Police Women’s Netball and Volleyball Inter-formation tournament has concluded with a celebratory dinner led by Senior Advisor Mark Pakes, who heads the New Zealand Police Fiji Partnership Programme.

The event celebrated the tournament winners while also honoring the resilience and advancements of women in law enforcement, centered around the theme “Transforming Mindset for Progress.” In his speech, Pakes stressed the importance of self-care alongside professional responsibilities.

“You owe it to yourself to seek balance, to engage in activities that re-energize you and foster supportive networks,” he stated, highlighting that taking care of oneself is vital for delivering exceptional service to others.

He also urged officers to support each other and recognize the strength that can arise from vulnerability.

The Southern Division emerged victorious, winning both the 2024 Netball and Volleyball Police Inter-formation titles. The tournament underscored not only athletic success but also the collective dedication to personal and professional development within the police force.
