Empowering Women: Fiji’s Rising Stars in MSME Recognition

There are 5,500 registered women actively participating in micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) initiatives. President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere made this announcement during the 14th South Pacific Business Development Foundation Day and Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2024 held at the Vodafone Arena.

He further mentioned that this figure adds to the 18,742 self-employed women and 4,650 women engaged in handicraft industries. This year, Elena Tinai from Saru Centre in Lautoka received the SPBD Businesswoman of the Year award for her exceptional contributions.

The President noted that women-led enterprises play a crucial role, as they focus on creating sustainable livelihoods, addressing social issues, and nurturing future generations. He emphasized that this sector accounts for approximately 82 percent of registered businesses in Fiji, highlighting its significance within the country’s economic framework.

Ratu Wiliame stated that with over 30,000 registered MSMEs, this sector is essential to the economy, contributing to growth, fostering innovation, and promoting diversification, especially in rural communities.
