Empowering Women: Celebrating Fiji’s MSME Trailblazers

There are 5,500 registered women participating in micro, small, and medium enterprises, as highlighted by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere during the 14th South Pacific Business Development Foundation Day and the Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2024 held at the Vodafone Arena.

Ratu Wiliame noted that this figure adds to the 18,742 self-employed women and 4,650 women engaged in handicrafts. Elena Tinai from Saru Centre in Lautoka received this year’s SPBD Businesswoman of the Year award for her significant contributions.

The President emphasized the holistic approach of women-led enterprises, which often aim to create sustainable livelihoods, tackle social challenges, and support future generations. He pointed out that this sector constitutes about 82 percent of registered businesses, underscoring its importance in Fiji’s economic landscape.

According to him, with over 30,000 registered micro, small, and medium enterprises, this sector is considered the backbone of the economy, driving growth, fostering innovation, and promoting diversification, especially in rural communities.
