Save the Children Fiji has initiated Output 2.2 of the project aimed at strengthening national and community resilience to disaster and displacement risks in Natadradave, Dawasamu, Tailevu.
This project will emphasize training in disaster risk resilience and entrepreneurship, while promoting gender equality and fostering community ownership of evacuation centers. It recognizes the essential contributions of women in Fiji, striving to empower them both economically and socially.
Jovesa Vocea, the Assistant Minister of Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management, highlighted the need for collective efforts in building resilience, underscoring the significance of education and adaptability.
Save the Children Fiji plans to offer various training programs that include child protection, preventing gender-based violence, enhancing financial literacy, and implementing climate-smart agriculture practices.
Additionally, the project will facilitate the upkeep of evacuation centers through income generated by the community.
Shairana Ali, the Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Fiji, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.
The initiative is funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency and is carried out in partnership with Save the Children Korea, the National Disaster Management Office, and the International Organisation for Migration. It aims to boost resilience among women in vulnerable communities through economic and social empowerment.
