Empowering Women: A Pathway to Economic Independence

Women, Children, and Social Protection Minister Lynda Tabuya recently presided over a ceremony where 60 women from nine tikinas and the Rewa Disabled Association were awarded certificates for their participation in the Pacific Women’s Economic Empowerment Program.

The workshop, titled Certified Training for Women Economic Empowerment, took place last week in Nakorovou Village, Dreketi, and was designed to enhance the participants’ skills in sewing, weaving, and jewelry-making.

Among those present was Ciara Lee, a contestant in the upcoming 2024 Hibiscus Festival, who has maternal ties to Rewa. She shared her journey as a young entrepreneur raised by a single mother.

This initiative is part of the Improving Livelihood Opportunities program, which falls under the Rewa Strategic Development Plan 2024-2027. It aims to tackle social issues in the villages and lay the foundation for economic activities to combat poverty.
