Empowering Women: A New Era of Change in Naqarani

Women from Naqarani, Rewa, are actively working to enhance their collective efforts, showcasing their progress under the leadership of Adi Asilika Lalawa, the head of the women’s organization. This group, which has a long history, has faced challenges in sustaining its activities compared to some others.

Year after year, they participate in the Women Expo, gaining invaluable knowledge and skills. This year marks a renewed effort to strengthen their organization. Currently, around 30 women from the local village are involved, with only a few organizations consistently providing support.

Every Monday, they gather to engage in various handicraft projects, often receiving around 50 items as donations to bolster their group’s efforts. Despite facing societal pressures and skeptical attitudes towards women’s endeavors, they are now striving diligently to overcome these stereotypes and improve their perspectives on business.

Recently, they received initial support from the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), expressing gratitude for the assistance provided. Just a few weeks ago, the group welcomed aid to enhance their operations and work output.

The support includes materials for crops, seedlings, kitchen utensils, and various food items. Currently, they are working hard to make the most of their efforts. The main goal of these food supplies is to help families improve their living conditions and local community stores.

A portion of land near their community hall is being utilized for farming, intended to support their group through the sale of produce.

There is a recognition that not all women in the community are equally engaged; however, those who are actively involved are benefiting significantly from the support of their women’s organization.

ADRA has helped the group establish greenhouses along with various farming tools and seedlings. This collaboration has revitalized their group and promoted growth in their community initiatives, along with plans to improve their local store’s operations, which had stagnated for a long time.

ADRA also provides education for the women, focusing on crop rotation and effective farming techniques.

Despite the challenges faced by many women who are not heavily involved yet with their efforts, there is a strong determination to drive the organization forward, as they are beginning to witness positive changes.

Women are encouraged to participate actively in the organization, which fosters learning and skill development through collaboration with others, leading to a broader understanding and potential for growth.
