Empowering Women: A New Dawn in Naqarani

Women’s empowerment initiatives are gaining momentum, according to Adi Asilika Lalawa, a leader within the women’s group from Naqarani, Rewa. The organization, which has been operational for several years, is increasingly making strides in supporting the local women, whom they help regularly.

The group frequently participates in the Women Expo held annually, where they learn valuable skills. This year, their organization is being revitalized, with around 30 women actively involved in community initiatives. They gather every Monday to work on their projects and provide support to each other with material assistance, which amounts to 50 sets of supplies.

In many instances, women face various challenges stemming from societal stereotypes, but now they are making significant efforts to overcome these negative perceptions and focus on business opportunities.

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) has provided initial support to the women’s group, which has been warmly received. Recently, ADRA visited the Noco area and responded promptly to requests for aid in terms of work supplies and tools.

It was noted that their efforts have substantially contributed to an improved community spirit, and the women are now encouraged to actively participate in decision-making.

Currently, there is a piece of land set aside by the group for their community activities, and they are working to enhance their center and surrounding neighborhood with essential resources as they prepare for future business endeavors.

While not all women are involved in the group, those who participate have significantly contributed to its growth and development, enjoying the benefits of any assistance offered.

Additionally, it has been observed that the greenhouse initiative has taken off, with members bringing in necessary materials and equipment to work alongside various crops.

With ADRA’s ongoing support, the organization’s trajectory continues to improve, showing promise for long-term sustainability. They also provide training in essential skills like food preservation to enhance their knowledge and practices.

However, many women still struggle with significant challenges that hinder their efforts, although they are resilient and committed to advancing the organization as they witness gradual improvements.

The advice given to the women is that their organization is beneficial, as it provides opportunities for learning and interaction with other groups, fostering overall growth and development in their community.
