Empowering Women: A Kitchen Revolution in Labasa

The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, recently visited the Veidehi Women’s Club in the Nabekavu Indian Community in Labasa. During her visit, she distributed essential kitchen items to empower local women and support their collective advancement as a community.

This initiative highlights the Coalition Government’s commitment to promoting gender equity, equality, social justice, and sustainable development, aiming to uplift women and children throughout Fiji.

As the Assistant Minister interacted with the members of the women’s group, they expressed their gratitude for the assistance. Notably, all members of the Veidehi Women’s Club benefit from social protection scheme allowances, reflecting the government’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities.

Hon. Kiran stated, “When we invest in women—whether through kitchenware or broader policies—we create a positive ripple effect. Their economic contributions circulate, benefiting families, neighborhoods, and society at large. As we celebrate this equipment handover, let’s recognize that women’s empowerment isn’t just about the present; it’s an investment in a brighter, more equitable future.”

The Veidehi Women’s Club serves a crucial role in the community by providing a space for women to connect, share skills, and support each other.
