Empowering Women: A Kitchen Revolution in Labasa

The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, visited the Veidehi Women’s Club in the Nabekavu Indian Community in Labasa to donate essential kitchen items aimed at empowering local women and fostering community development.

This initiative reflects the Coalition Government’s commitment to promoting gender equity, equality, social justice, and sustainable development, with the goal of uplifting women and children throughout Fiji.

During her visit, Kiran interacted with the women’s group members, who expressed their appreciation for the assistance. It was highlighted that all members of the Veidehi Women’s Club receive social protection scheme allowances, underscoring the government’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities.

Kiran emphasized, “When we invest in women—whether through kitchenware or broader policies—we create a positive ripple effect. Their economic contributions circulate, benefiting families, neighborhoods, and society as a whole. As we celebrate this equipment handover, it’s important to remember that women’s empowerment isn’t just about the present; it’s an investment in a brighter, more equitable future.”

The Veidehi Women’s Club serves an important function in the community by providing a space for women to connect, share skills, and support each other.
