Women in Naqarani, Rewa, are showcasing their determination and resilience through a strong collective effort aimed at enhancing their community. Adi Asilika Lalawa, the leader of the local women’s group, highlighted their longstanding commitment to supporting one another. This year, their group is experiencing renewed energy, particularly as they participate in the annual Women Expo, which has provided valuable learning opportunities.

Approximately 30 women from the community are actively involved in this group, with a dedication to enhancing their livelihoods through various initiatives. They hold weekly meetings every Monday, where they engage in handcraft projects and also distribute 50 sewing kits to support their activities.

Despite facing challenges stemming from various societal pressures, the women are determined to overcome outdated perceptions and work towards increasing their business acumen.

The group recently received support from the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), which provided essential tools and resources. The ADRA team visited the Noco area weeks ago and responded positively to the group’s request for assistance to enhance their income-generating activities.

With support from ADRA, the women are now utilizing their communal land to grow food for their families and are committed to creating better living conditions through the development of community spaces. The group is enthusiastic about improving their local market as well as other avenues to strengthen their economic standing.

The women have also taken the initiative to revive greenhouse projects to ensure their farming efforts are productive. ADRA’s involvement has not only provided them with the necessary supplies but has also boosted their morale and operational capabilities.

While many women continue to face significant hurdles in their endeavors, they remain hopeful and motivated to improve their organization and seize opportunities for learning and collaboration within the wider community.
