Empowering Women: A Drive towards Change in Noco, Rewa

Women are making significant strides in their efforts, as evidenced by the positive progress in their collective initiatives. This was highlighted by Adi Asilika Lalawa, the president of the Women’s Society from Naqarani, Rewa.

The women’s group has been established for some time but has not remained consistently active like some others. They regularly present at the Women Expo held annually, gaining valuable insights each year. This year, their organization is revitalizing itself once again, with around 30 active women in the community, although only a few continue to support the organization.

Every Monday, they come together to work on handicrafts, and they provide approximately 50 items to support their organization. Many women experience discouragement due to various negative influences, but they are currently working hard to eliminate these challenges and are striving to foster a positive business mindset.

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) has been instrumental in providing initial support, and the women expressed gratitude for their assistance. Recently, ADRA visited the Noco area weeks ago to offer aid in terms of tools and materials for their projects. The women’s group has started to rebuild some of their infrastructure over the past few months and they have shared their aspirations for future improvements.

ADRA has supported the women with various produce items, helping them augment their efforts. Currently, the women are diligently working to leverage the resources they have for better outcomes. The primary aim is to enhance their community homes and local stores through increased production.

A piece of land adjacent to their community hall is being utilized as a greenhouse to support their agricultural initiatives, alongside the introduction of additional tools and equipment necessary for various crops. With ADRA’s involvement, the organization is progressing, expanding its outreach, and implementing strategies to sustain their community stores that have seen prolonged periods of inactivity.

ADRA also provides training to the women on various agricultural practices to improve their yields and engage effectively in market activities.

Despite the obstacles faced by many women who struggle to maintain consistent efforts, they remain resilient, hopeful for progress as they begin to see positive changes within their organization. Ongoing guidance is available to help them build a robust support system, emphasizing the importance of knowledge exchange among other women for collective development and growth.
