Empowering Women: A Community Driven by Change

In a bid to promote women’s empowerment through community work, the leader of the Naqarani women’s group, Adi Asilika Lalawa, highlighted the progress being made in various initiatives. Although the women’s organization has been established for some time, it has not always received adequate support compared to others.

The women from Naqarani have consistently participated in the Women Expo held annually, where they learn valuable skills. This year, their organization is undergoing considerable revitalization. Approximately 30 women from the community are active in this initiative, with only a few supporting the organization regularly.

Every Monday, these women gather to engage in their handiwork and provide assistance to the group with 50 sewing pieces contributed for their projects. Despite facing challenges, including varying levels of commitment among the women due to differing mindsets, they are now vigorously working to overcome negative perceptions and advance their business ambitions.

Recently, they received support from the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), which has been acknowledged for its generous contributions. This support came after a visit to the Noco area where the group requested aid for their work and materials.

The women have shown progress in their projects over the past few months, successfully allocating resources toward their goals. In addition, they have been utilizing a plot of land near their community center to enhance their agricultural activities.

ADRA is assisting with various food supplies, including vegetables, fruits, and other essentials. Currently, the group is working diligently to achieve their objectives and improve their living conditions.

The collaboration with ADRA has led to increased community engagement and improved conditions for the women’s group, enhancing their capacity to function smoothly. They have also begun cultivation in greenhouses and are working together on several agricultural products.

This support is expected to facilitate further development of the women’s group, ensuring they can establish a stable presence in their community and improve the long-term sustainability of their initiatives. The women are optimistic as they actively seek knowledge and skills to further their efforts in their communities.
