Empowering Voices: The Fight Against HIV Begins with Survivors

Advocate and HIV survivor Temo Sausau emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against HIV, stating that people living with the virus should be central to the national response. He highlighted the principle of “nothing about us without us,” urging that discussions and strategies regarding HIV must include the voices of those directly impacted by the disease.

Sausau called for proper training for all gatekeepers involved in the response, particularly targeting religious organizations, civil society groups, community health workers, and traditional leaders. He warned that as HIV numbers are expected to rise, it is crucial for these gatekeepers to be prepared for the reintegration of affected individuals into society.
