“Empowering Voices: The Call for Inclusive HIV Advocacy”

Advocates in the fight against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are being urged to collaborate rather than work independently, according to survivor Temo Sausau. He emphasized the importance of placing individuals living with HIV at the forefront of the national response to the epidemic.

Sausau stated, “Nothing about us without us,” stressing that the discourse surrounding HIV must involve those who are directly affected by the disease. He called for stakeholders to train various gatekeepers, including members of religious organizations, civil society groups, community health workers, and traditional leaders, to prepare for the increasing number of individuals living with HIV.

He underlined that these gatekeepers play a crucial role in the reintegration of those affected by the virus, highlighting the need for readiness and support within communities.
