Empowering Voices: Miss Nasinu Contestant Fights Domestic Violence

Vinaina Marawa aims to use the Miss Nasinu Festival as a platform to foster discussions and empower women to escape the cycle of violence. The 22-year-old from Kadavu is deeply motivated by her personal experiences with domestic violence.

“I witnessed my mom in an abusive relationship, and my mom left my dad because of that,” Ms. Marawa shared. As the eldest of seven siblings, she feels a strong sense of responsibility towards her mother and siblings, which led her to make the decision to forgo further education after high school in order to start working.

Ms. Marawa emphasizes that pageantry is more than just competition among young women; it also creates lasting bonds among participants. “I want to be a role model not only for my siblings but for my community as well,” she stated.

She is competing as one of seven contestants for the Miss Vodafone Nasinu Festival 2024 crown, with the event scheduled to take place from August 24 to August 31.
