Ahead of their match in the Fiji Secondary School Raluve Competition, the Labasa Sangam College Under 16 girls Rugby team presented an isevusevu to the President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, at the State House.
President Katonivere welcomed the team and described their gesture as an honor. He stressed the importance for young women to maintain a balance between sports and their academic responsibilities.
“You must find equilibrium between your academic duties and your athletic aspirations, as sports is not the only career path available to you. Don’t assume that being from a remote area will hinder your ability to achieve your dreams,” he stated.
He encouraged the young ladies to strive for excellence, set clear goals, and maintain a vision for the future, while also highlighting the importance of having confidence in their pursuits and listening to their parents.
The President urged the athletes to enjoy their competition and always heed the advice of their instructors and coaches. The State House also provided an opportunity for the girls to tour the premises.
