The success of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is essential for the overall prosperity of the nation, as emphasized by Fiji Development Bank (FDB) board chairman Damend Gounder during the 2023 FDB National Small and Medium Enterprise Awards held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Thursday. Gounder described the event as an occasion for recognition, appreciation, and a renewed commitment to entrepreneurial spirit.
He highlighted the long-standing acknowledgment by FDB of the crucial role SMEs play in the country’s economic and social landscape. “The Fiji Development Bank is proud of our contributions and we eagerly reaffirm our commitment to these ongoing efforts,” said Mr. Gounder.
He noted that SMEs are navigating a path of evolution amid technological advancements and increasing challenges, yet they have continued to progress and grow inclusively while adopting sustainable practices and infrastructure.
“Our future generations are undoubtedly in good hands as these numerous interconnected enterprises work to safeguard our economic and cultural interests. However, each of us still has important roles to fulfill,” he stated.
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere remarked on FDB’s steadfast support for SMEs, citing the disbursement of $40 million to the sector last year as a testament to the institution’s dedication to national progress.
