Business is thriving for a sub-clan in Nadi following government assistance. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, delivered a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This event marked an important milestone in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The new excavator is expected to alleviate financial pressures for the company and enhance its productivity. The business has diversified its operations into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to establish a sustainable venture that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica reiterated the government’s commitment to providing equitable opportunities for traditional landowners, commending the local community for their efforts in building a successful enterprise. He noted, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, reflects our belief in the potential of rural enterprises to spur economic growth.”

He also recognized the difficulties micro and small businesses encounter when seeking financing and affirmed the government’s dedication to exploring innovative financial solutions, including small loans and crowdfunding.

Community members were encouraged to participate in future public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which is aimed at introducing alternative funding mechanisms. The new excavator will improve their operations, leading to greater production capacity and enhanced efficiency, ultimately benefiting the local economy.

“This event exemplifies the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. Together, we reinforce our dedication to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and creating a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he stated.

Vilikisa Sayabo, the company director, expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He explained, “We started our business two years ago. Through gravel extraction, we acquired a truck but still relied on hiring an excavator from a contractor. This year, with the government’s assistance, we followed the necessary process and received this machine. The excavator will significantly reduce our workload and increase our production, enabling us to generate more revenue.”
