A local business owner has highlighted the positive aspects of operating a handcrafted goods enterprise, particularly as interest in handmade items continues to grow. Iowana Salusalu, who runs her business called Wananavu Earrings from Qelekuro, Tailevu, emphasizes the importance of exploring and developing one’s creativity and passion through small businesses.

Salusalu’s venture, established in 2019, has thrived, especially since the pandemic period where she contemplated starting a business from home. She creatively crafts her earrings from materials sourced locally, including items from Vatulele. Currently, she is expanding her operations with the help of one of her daughters, and they are both optimistic about the future of their business.

Her products have attracted considerable attention, appealing to both local residents and international customers who appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of the items. Salusalu mentions that with consistent daily earnings, there’s potential for substantial profit within just a week of dedicated work.

The business landscape is encouraging many women in Tailevu to pursue artisanal crafts, motivating them to gain practical skills in entrepreneurship. Salusalu advocates for a continuous growth mindset and encourages aspiring business owners to remain dedicated and innovative in their ventures, as there are plentiful opportunities available.

By focusing on quality and the uniqueness of handmade products, she believes that small businesses can flourish, benefiting not only the entrepreneurs but also the communities they serve.
