The recently launched Careers Fair in Suva, organized by the Outsourcing Industry, aims to do more than just inform students of career options; it seeks to encourage meaningful conversations between parents and children regarding their ambitions and aspirations, emphasized Assistant Minister Iliesa Vanawalu.
During the event’s opening, Vanawalu highlighted a shift away from the traditional perspective that students should simply stay home during school breaks. He noted that this fair provides an invaluable opportunity for young people to gain real-world experience in various professions.
The Assistant Minister expressed a commitment to making career opportunities accessible to every student in Fiji, ensuring that none are overlooked. “Education is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about empowering individuals to realize their full potential, pursue their passions, and make significant contributions to society,” he stated.
Vanawalu also pointed out that education should be closely aligned with industry needs, emphasizing the importance of innovation in preparing graduates for the demands of the evolving workforce.
Additionally, Mr. Lasarusa Rakula, a Senior Curriculum Advisor for the Ministry of Education’s Career Section, noted the limited job opportunities available in Fiji and encouraged students and school leavers to take full advantage of the two-day fair.
The event successfully attracted numerous students from the greater Suva area, marking a significant engagement in career exploration and planning.
This initiative represents hope for the future, as it not only highlights the importance of career readiness but also fosters a culture of dialogue and collaboration between families and educational institutions to support the ambitions of young Fijians.
Overall, the Careers Fair demonstrates a commitment to equipping the next generation with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing job market.
