Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has highlighted the transformative power of education during a graduation ceremony at Pacific Polytech in Nausori. He noted that young people are breaking away from the challenges posed by poverty, gender inequality, and social stigma by opting for vocational and technical education.
During his address, Mr. Rabuka emphasized that graduates from rural and maritime communities are becoming pioneers in their families by pursuing post-secondary education. He praised the inclusive, skills-based training that Pacific Polytech provides, stating, “This is the power of inclusive, skills-based education and Pacific Polytech is at the front of it.”
The Prime Minister also celebrated the strides women are making in traditionally male-dominated trades, encouraging them to break stereotypes and pave the way for future generations. He remarked, “Graduates have earned more than just a certificate; they are building a better Fiji.” Mr. Rabuka urged the graduates to inspire others, commit to lifelong learning, and lead with integrity and purpose.
This celebration of educational achievement corresponds with Pacific Polytech’s ongoing mission to offer vocational training that addresses national workforce needs and empowers individuals to overcome societal challenges. Past articles reveal that more than 2,000 students have graduated from Pacific Polytech as part of initiatives to uplift Fiji’s youth through practical skills training.
The emphasis on skill development is crucial as it provides pathways towards employment and entrepreneurship, contributing not only to personal success but also to the overall stability and growth of communities in Fiji. The hope and resilience displayed by the graduates serve as a testament to the effectiveness of education and reflects a promising future for the nation’s youth.
Empowering young people through education not only fosters individual growth but reinforces the fabric of society, offering the potential to create a more inclusive and skilled workforce in Fiji.
