Forty-seven students from Nadi have completed a training program designed to equip them with leadership skills for their communities. These students, drawn from various schools in Nadi and Sigatoka, took part in a two-day Blue Light leadership training session held at Korovuto College in Nadi.
The program was organized in collaboration with Blue Light, a registered charity from New Zealand that works with the police to provide a variety of youth-focused programs and activities. The organization’s mission includes lowering the chances of youth becoming offenders or falling victim to crime, while also enhancing relationships among the police, young people, their parents, and the broader community.
On Wednesday, the students celebrated their graduation from the leadership initiative.
Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, urged the graduates to become change-makers within their schools and communities. He emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge they acquired during their training.
“We gathered here from different parts of Nadi because we see your potential as young leaders,” he stated. SSP Vaisewa addressed the troubling issues some youth face, including drug use and other criminal activities, stressing the negative impact these issues have on the perception of young people in Fiji.
He cautioned the students about the risks associated with following harmful paths and underlined that they still have the opportunity to make positive choices. He encouraged them to recognize their self-worth and the significance of their decisions.
“Understand your potential, regardless of what others might say. You have been selected for this program to become agents of change in your communities,” he concluded.
