Empowering Future Entrepreneurs: Grants for Young Innovators!

Women have been urged to assist young individuals looking to launch their own businesses. Losana Marama, a representative from West Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, addressed attendees at a women’s conference held at Gurukul Primary School in Saweni, Lautoka, emphasizing the benefits of the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) program.

Marama explained that the scheme aims to provide financial aid in the form of grants for young and aspiring entrepreneurs with innovative and viable business ideas. The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport offers funding of up to $30,000 to successful applicants aged 18 to 40, helping them develop or expand their creative business concepts.

“If your child possesses inventive and imaginative ideas, they can apply for this funding,” Marama stated. She highlighted that young people often encounter creative business models on platforms like TikTok that may not yet exist in Fiji. “They are welcome to approach us for assistance in securing this funding,” she added.

Marama clarified that the funding limit is $30,000, which is a grant rather than a loan and is completely financed. “If you recognize a talent in your child, strive to motivate and empower them,” she encouraged.

She affirmed that the government acknowledges the essential role young entrepreneurs play in boosting the economy’s growth. “As parents and guardians, we must inspire our children to become ‘job creators’ instead of ‘job seekers,’” she remarked.

The West Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) office is located at Rogorogoivuda House in Lautoka.
