Empowering Fiji’s Youth: A Revolutionary National Service Proposal

Felix Magnus, the executive chairman of the Nasinu Town Council, is set to announce a proposal for a compulsory national service ordinance aimed at empowering the youth and addressing significant social issues.

The announcement will take place during the Fiji Day celebrations at the Valelevu Multi-Purpose Court, with the intention of engaging young individuals in community service, environmental initiatives, and skills development to promote responsibility and civic involvement.

“This isn’t just about celebrating Fiji’s past but preparing for its future,” Magnus stated. He emphasized that the national service initiative would provide young people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to society, enhance their skills, and understand the importance of civic responsibility.

Magnus clarified that the national service program would not take a militarized approach; instead, it would center on community engagement, drawing from successful international examples.

Additionally, he proposed establishing a national youth think tank dedicated to developing sustainable, long-term strategies to confront the challenges faced by the youth in Fiji.

“We need to look ahead, ensuring that we’re building a future where our youth have the opportunities and support they need to succeed. This think tank would ensure a coordinated approach to tackling these issues,” Magnus added.
