Felix Magnus, the executive chairman of the Nasinu Town Council, is set to unveil a proposal for a mandatory national service ordinance aimed at empowering youth and addressing significant social issues. The announcement will take place during the Fiji Day celebrations at the Valelevu Multi-Purpose Court, with the goal of engaging young individuals in community service, environmental initiatives, and skills development to cultivate responsibility and civic participation.
“This initiative is not just about honoring Fiji’s history; it’s about preparing for its future,” Mr. Magnus stated. “The national service will create valuable opportunities for our youth to contribute to society, enhance their skills, and understand the importance of civic duty.”
He emphasized that the national service program would not have a military focus; instead, it will encourage community engagement, drawing on models from successful international programs.
Additionally, Mr. Magnus proposed establishing a national youth think tank, responsible for developing sustainable strategies to tackle the challenges young people face in Fiji. “We must plan for a future where our youth have access to the opportunities and support necessary for their success,” he said, highlighting the need for a unified approach to these pressing issues.
