The executive chairman of Nasinu Town Council, Felix Magnus, is set to announce a proposal for a national compulsory service ordinance aimed at empowering youth and addressing significant social issues. The announcement will take place during Fiji Day celebrations at the Valelevu Multi-Purpose Court, where Mr. Magnus intends to encourage young people to participate in community service, environmental initiatives, and skill development, thereby fostering a sense of responsibility and civic engagement.
“This initiative is not only about reflecting on Fiji’s history but also about preparing for its future,” stated Mr. Magnus. “The national service program will offer our youth meaningful opportunities to give back to society, enhance their skills, and understand the importance of civic duty.”
He emphasized that the proposed national service would not take a militarized form; instead, it would prioritize community involvement and draw inspiration from successful international programs. Additionally, Mr. Magnus proposed the establishment of a national youth think tank, which would focus on creating sustainable, long-term strategies to tackle the issues faced by young people in Fiji.
“We must focus on the future, ensuring that our youth have access to the opportunities and support necessary for their success. This think tank will foster a coordinated approach to addressing these challenges.”
