Empowering Fiji’s Youth: A Bold New Service Proposal

Felix Magnus, the executive chairman of Nasinu Town Council, is set to unveil a proposal for a compulsory national service ordinance designed to empower the youth and tackle pressing social issues. This announcement will take place during the Fiji Day celebrations at the Valelevu Multi-Purpose Court, where there will be an emphasis on encouraging young people to participate in community service, engage in environmental initiatives, and develop skills that promote responsibility and civic engagement.

“This initiative is not merely about honoring Fiji’s history, but also about preparing for its future,” Mr. Magnus stated. He emphasized that the proposed national service would focus on community involvement rather than military training, taking cues from successful international programs.

In addition to the national service proposal, Mr. Magnus suggested establishing a national youth think tank. This group would be responsible for developing sustainable, long-term strategies to address the challenges faced by the youth in Fiji. “It is essential to look forward to ensure that we are building a future in which our youth have the necessary opportunities and support to thrive,” he added. “The think tank will facilitate a coordinated approach to confronting these issues.”
