The Fiji Development Bank (FDB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, has successfully delivered vital machinery to two resource-owner businesses situated in Nadi. The handover, which occurred yesterday, included a truck and an excavator for Vurabere Investment Pte Limited, as well as another excavator given to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited.
These businesses specialize in the extraction of sand and gravel, and the support from FDB, along with additional funding from the Ministry’s Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP), equips them to enhance their operational capabilities. Titilia Vakaoca Kamil, FDB’s acting chief executive officer, emphasized that this initiative would enable local businesses to effectively manage resources, reduce operating costs, and generate essential employment opportunities within their communities.
“This marks a significant move towards increased self-reliance and a progressive mindset,” Kamil remarked. She highlighted the importance of the collaboration between FDB and the ministry, stating that supporting local enterprises contributes to the overall prosperity of communities and Fiji’s economy.
Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica led the handover ceremony, reinforcing the strong partnership aimed at bolstering local businesses and supporting resource owners. A representative from Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited expressed anticipation for growth, mentioning that the new machinery will assist in cost management and operational expansion.
The handover event, which took place in Dratabu and Maqalevu, Nadi, saw the participation of approximately 40 stakeholders and local representatives. The Nadi Branch manager of FDB, Mohammed Jaffar, was present to discuss the bank’s continuous support for businesses throughout Fiji.
Expressing FDB’s commitment to partnering with businesses and government entities, Kamil encouraged local enterprises to reach out for assistance. “Our goal is to deliver strong services to sectors that contribute to the sustainable growth of the Fijian economy,” she stated.
