The American Corner at Suva’s Carnegie Library has received a significant enhancement through the donation of 14 new laptops and a state-of-the-art storage cabinet from the United States Embassy. This generous contribution, announced by US Ambassador to Fiji Marie Damour, underscores the embassy’s dedication to fostering educational opportunities in Fiji.
Ambassador Damour emphasized that these laptops, combined with high-speed Starlink internet access, will facilitate more interactive learning experiences for community members. She stated, “The American Corner is more than just a space with cool technology. It’s a place where people can meet and exchange ideas, express their opinions, and develop new skills and make new friends.”
Opened in 2023, the American Corner has already made a significant impact, attracting over 2,500 participants to its programs. This initiative aligns with similar endeavors aimed at enhancing education across Fiji. For instance, schools like Ratu Kadavulevu have benefited from significant donations to improve their educational resources, reflecting a broader commitment from various organizations, including governments, to support learning initiatives.
Tevita Boseiwaqa, the Suva City Council Special Administrator, recognized the crucial role libraries play in shaping minds and providing access to knowledge. He encouraged the youth to appreciate the balance of traditional resources like books with modern technology, viewing libraries as vital spaces for personal and academic growth.
