Empowering Fiji’s Future: A Bold Proposal for Youth Engagement

Felix Magnus, the executive chairman of the Nasinu Town Council, is set to announce a proposal for a compulsory national service ordinance aimed at empowering youth and addressing significant social issues. This announcement will take place during Fiji Day celebrations at the Valelevu Multi-Purpose Court and seeks to engage young individuals in community service, environmental initiatives, and skills development to promote civic responsibility.

Mr. Magnus emphasized that this initiative goes beyond commemorating Fiji’s history; it is about preparing for the future. He stated, “National service will provide our young people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to society, develop their skills, and learn the value of civic duty.”

He clarified that the proposed national service program would not involve military training but would focus on community engagement, drawing inspiration from successful international models. Furthermore, Mr. Magnus suggested establishing a national youth think tank. This group would be responsible for devising sustainable, long-term strategies to address the challenges faced by young people in Fiji.

“We need to look ahead, ensuring that we’re building a future where our youth have the opportunities and support they need to succeed. This think tank would ensure a coordinated approach to tackling these issues,” he remarked.
