Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Kamikamica officially inaugurated the FRIEND E-Commerce Platform at the Grand Pacific Hotel yesterday. This initiative marks a crucial move towards empowering local communities and increasing the visibility of microenterprises.
During his address, DPM Kamikamica emphasized the essential role of microenterprises in fighting poverty and enhancing economic resilience. “Today, we are not just launching a platform; we are sharing stories and preserving our heritage,” he stated. He mentioned that the collaboration with Shop Pasifika would open avenues for local crafts, enabling artisans to connect with a wider audience.
The Deputy Prime Minister commended FRIEND for its lasting dedication to improving lives over the last 22 years through various social and economic empowerment initiatives. He also highlighted the transformative power of e-commerce in the modern digital landscape, reiterating the Government’s dedication to promoting digital innovation and creating the first-ever E-Commerce Strategy. This strategy aims to remove obstacles and allow businesses of all sizes to tap into global markets.
“Together, we will pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous future for all Fijians,” he asserted. The launch of the FRIEND E-Commerce Platform is anticipated to significantly improve the livelihoods of numerous Fijians by equipping them with essential skills and greater access to new markets.
