Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the family’s primary provider for the last twenty years. Ms. Naturaga, a resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga in Bua, was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, who recently graduated with a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy.

This three-day training program was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the PRB. As a mother of two and a former student of Year 12 at Nadi SKM College, Ms. Naturaga previously worked at a pizza restaurant and spent time as a machinist at Ghimli Textiles until it closed in 2006. Her husband works as an electrician, and she seeks to assist him by taking on greater responsibilities.

Ms. Naturaga described the training as invaluable, stating it expanded her knowledge and helped her formulate her business aspirations, particularly in skills-based ventures like fabric design and tie-dye work. This was the first financial literacy training offered to PRB tenants in the western region, with more sessions expected in the future for those in Nadi and Lautoka.

Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, praised the graduates and urged them to implement the knowledge gained in their everyday lives. He highlighted that the training provides crucial insights into essential business management topics, financial literacy, and market connections to foster entrepreneurship among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while also creating networking opportunities. Topics covered included marketing strategies, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, and profitability.
