Paulina Naturaga is determined to support her husband, who has been the family’s sole provider for the last twenty years. The resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga in Bua was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, who recently completed a three-day Financial Literacy training course organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the PRB.
As a mother of two, Ms. Naturaga reflected on her educational journey, having completed Year 12 at Nadi SKM College. Her career began at a pizza restaurant, followed by a position as a machinist at Ghimli Textiles, where she worked until the company closed in 2006. With her husband working as an electrician, she aims to contribute more by undertaking additional responsibilities.
She remarked that the training program was invaluable, expanding her knowledge for her business aspirations. “I want to venture into skills-based businesses like fabric and tie-dye,” she shared.
This initiative marked the first financial literacy training for PRB tenants in the western region, with plans for further sessions in Nadi and Lautoka in the months ahead. Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, congratulated the participants and urged them to implement the skills gained from the course in their everyday lives.
“The training offers crucial insights into business management, financial literacy, and market networking, which aim to foster entrepreneurship among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” said Mr. Nalumisa. He added that the program covers various important topics, including marketing strategies, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, and pricing strategies.
