In a compelling interview, Fulori Waqasaqa, a 33-year-old entrepreneur from Namuaimada, Ra, is making strides in her handmade crafts business based in Bulileka, Labasa. Having launched her business just last year, she has witnessed tremendous support that has significantly benefited both her professional and personal life.
Fulori honed her skills through a higher education program she attended in Nasinu, focusing on entrepreneurship, although she initially never envisioned starting her own business. She is now eager to embrace further learning to expand her capabilities and enhance her business knowledge.
“Having this talent has always been something I’ve aspired to develop into a business, and today it has become a reality,” she said, highlighting the importance of dedication to her craft. Fulori is now producing various handmade items, which she sells at local markets and other retail locations throughout the area, establishing a steady flow of customers.
Her entrepreneurial journey includes consistent sales, particularly during key events at venues like Koro Sun and Tanoa, with some orders even coming from Nausori. Fulori reported a surge in orders this festive season, with demand for her handmade items sometimes exceeding her production capacity.
Priced affordably around $5, her items are proving popular among consumers, and she has plans to expand her product line. On average, Fulori is able to create around 20 items in a single day, with potential weekly earnings reaching approximately $200, and even greater if there are larger events.
Despite starting small, Fulori’s efforts have significantly contributed not only to her family’s welfare but have also empowered her community through local commerce. She encourages fellow entrepreneurs to optimize their talents and skills, emphasizing the importance of divine guidance as they navigate their entrepreneurial paths.
This story reflects the resilience and potential of local entrepreneurs, showing that with passion and perseverance, anyone can achieve their dreams, even amid the challenges that may arise in starting a business.
