Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the primary provider for their family for the last twenty years. The resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga in Bua was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, who recently graduated with a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy.
The three-day training program was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the PRB. As a mother of two and a graduate of Year 12 from Nadi SKM College, Ms. Naturaga previously worked at a pizza restaurant and later as a machinist at Ghimli Textiles until it closed in 2006. With her husband working as an electrician, she seeks to take on additional responsibilities.
She highlighted that the extensive training aimed to prepare aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners with essential skills for succeeding in a competitive market. “This study has been very handy for me as it has broadened my knowledge for my aspirations in business,” Ms. Naturaga remarked, as she expressed her desire to explore skills-based business opportunities like fabric and tie-dye.
This program marks the inaugural financial literacy training at the PRB estate in the western region, with plans for additional sessions for PRB tenants in Nadi and Lautoka in the near future. Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to utilize the knowledge gained in their everyday lives.
“The training offers vital insights into business management, financial literacy, and market connections, with the goal of fostering entrepreneurial growth among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and creating networking opportunities,” explained Mr. Nalumisa. He added that the training encompassed various subjects, including marketing strategies, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, and profitability.
