Festivals play a crucial role in uniting individuals from various cultures and backgrounds, fostering relationships and friendships that empower communities to achieve their goals. This message was emphasized by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, during the Nasinu Festival – Girmit Night (Bollywood Night).

Professor Prasad remarked, “Achieving success as a group not only benefits a community but also strengthens its bonds and underscores the importance of cooperation.” He expressed appreciation to the Nasinu Festival Charitable Trust Fund and the organizing committee for reviving the festival after a five-year break.

He hopes that the festival continues to grow and retains its significance for the Nasinu community. Girmit Night has become one of the most cherished cultural celebrations within festivals nationwide, bringing together individuals from various ethnic backgrounds for a night filled with entertainment and music.

“The Nasinu Festival aims to honor the rich cultural heritage of our area while fostering community connections by bringing people together,” said Prasad. Looking ahead, he announced that the Coalition Government will introduce a new National Development Plan next month, with a key focus on empowering individuals.

“The ambitious vision of the new plan is to unite the people of Fiji, serving as a roadmap for our citizens.” He noted that Nasinu and its surrounding areas are increasingly evolving into important urban centers, with 58% of the population currently residing in urban settings.

“Urban development will remain vital in enhancing the social welfare of our populace, particularly as more individuals transition from rural to urban living,” he stated, urging a comprehensive approach that prioritizes livability, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

The Coalition Government recognizes the vital roles played by community-based organizations, religious groups, and civil society in bolstering local communities and promoting development. The government supports collaboration with these entities to empower individuals and strengthen communities, which is fundamental to a thriving democracy.
