In Kavewa, Nadogo, Macuata, the women continue to engage in significant community work, led by the Cagimaiwai Womens Club, coordinated by Talei Silibaravi. She highlights the need for change and adaptability to better tackle development issues in the community.

The women of Kavewa have shown remarkable progress in their efforts, receiving support from local leaders. The club, which has been active for many years, focuses on various community services. Since a pivotal moment in 2011 when the women were encouraged to formalize their organization, its membership has grown to approximately 30, with some members well into their 70s.

In 2021, the club sought assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to enhance their work with the implementation of biogas systems. This initiative was a success, with 24 ‘Home Biogas’ units purchased to support various households.

Currently, the club is planning to construct a facility for a solar freezer to aid in the preservation of fish, addressing the challenges faced by local fish vendors who often lose inventory due to inadequate storage.

Living on an island with limited resources, the club members have embraced various developmental projects aimed at improving their village’s living conditions. The Self Help programme has also played a crucial role in providing assistance and empowering their initiatives.

The women regularly engage in environmental clean-up activities in their village, showcasing their commitment to sustainability. They work closely with the World Wildlife Fund to protect local wildlife and preserve natural habitats, demonstrating a holistic approach to community development.

The engagement of local men and youths further bolsters community efforts, with support for the women’s initiatives becoming increasingly common. As the Cagimaiwai Womens Club gears up to incorporate cooperative practices, they aim to foster stronger community ties and greater self-sufficiency.

Despite the challenges they face, the women continue to push for greater support from local governmental bodies for resources and educational opportunities. The future looks bright for the Cagimaiwai Womens Club, representing a hopeful shift towards more empowered and united community development efforts.

In summary, the Cagimaiwai Womens Club exemplifies community empowerment and progress in Kavewa, exhibiting determination and resilience in their projects and initiatives. Their work not only enhances their quality of life but also sets a strong example for sustainable development in rural areas.
