World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was celebrated on June 27th, highlighting the crucial role that MSMEs play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted several members of the Building at Sunset community to reflect on what inspired them to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.
Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with two properties listed in Laucala Beach Estate and Pacific Harbour. She initially started her business to balance staying at home with her children while contributing to the family’s income. Over time, her motivation shifted towards achieving financial independence, and she looks forward to expanding her business from a Facebook page to a dedicated website.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, revealed that her business was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to increased demand for cleaning services. Motivated by her personal goals and influenced by the success of other women in business, she focused on providing hygiene solutions in the Suva-Nausori corridor, with plans for future expansion.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her passion for fitness during high school, which led to a commitment to health and wellness. With over a decade of experience in various fitness disciplines, she established her business to create a supportive environment for individuals seeking to improve their quality of life through fitness.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153 and the Innovation in Construction Hub, is dedicated to sustainability and innovation in construction. Her initiative aims to harness local expertise and explore new products that address Fiji’s infrastructural challenges.
