Empowering Change: Inspiring Stories from World MSME Day

World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27, highlighting the essential role that MSMEs play in fostering innovation, generating jobs, and promoting sustainability. This year’s theme was “Small Business, Big Change.” Members from the Building at Sunset community shared their inspirations for embarking on entrepreneurial journeys.

Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, manages a short-term rental business with two properties—one in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night, and another in Pacific Harbour at $750 per night. Initially driven by the desire to spend more time at home with her children while contributing to the family income, her focus has now shifted towards achieving financial independence. She looks forward to expanding her presence from her current Facebook page to launching a website soon.

Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, founded her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic, starting operations in 2020. Her decision stemmed from commitments made by several businesses to utilize her services. Operating primarily in the Suva-Nausori corridor, she hopes to expand further. Her motivations are tied to her personal ambitions and her admiration for successful women in business, particularly during a time when the demand for cleaning and sanitization surged.

Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her passion for health and wellness in high school through sports. Her decade-long experience and numerous certifications in various fitness disciplines fueled her desire to create a space where people can achieve their fitness goals and improve their lives. Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness aims to empower individuals to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Innovation in Construction Hub (ICH), is dedicated to integrating sustainability and local expertise into the construction industry. As the founder of Atelier 153, an architectural design firm, she is committed to developing new products and solutions tailored to Fijian infrastructural challenges. Mataika’s initiative focuses on harnessing various skills within the construction sector to drive innovation for new projects.
