World MSME Day was celebrated on June 27, highlighting the vital role of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting sustainability. This year’s theme was “Small Business, Big Change.” Members of the Building at Sunset community shared their motivations for embarking on entrepreneurial journeys.
Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with properties in Laucala Beach Estate and Pacific Harbour, priced at $200 and $750 per night, respectively. Initially driven by the desire to stay home with her children while contributing to household income, her focus has now shifted toward achieving financial freedom. She looks forward to expanding her business through a new website.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her cleaning business in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially motivated by the need for cleaning services during the health crisis, she plans to expand her operations into other towns. Her entrepreneurial spirit was fueled by her personal goals and the success of other women in business.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, began her fitness journey in high school, which has evolved into a commitment to health and wellness. With over ten years of experience and various fitness certifications, she established Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness to help others improve their fitness and overall quality of life.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, an architectural design firm, is passionate about sustainability and innovation in the construction industry. She launched the Innovation in Construction Hub to leverage local expertise and address infrastructure challenges in Fiji through innovative solutions.
