World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27th, focusing on the crucial role that MSMEs play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted several members of the Building at Sunset community to share their inspirations for embarking on their entrepreneurship journeys.
Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, manages a short-term rental business offering two properties: a two-bedroom unit in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom property in Pacific Harbour for $750 per night. Her initial motivation to start her business was to balance family time with contributing to the household income, which later evolved into a pursuit of financial freedom. Fisher is looking forward to expanding her business from a Facebook page to a dedicated website.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, launched her cleaning services in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic after securing commitments from businesses for cleaning contracts. Operating primarily in the Suva-Nausori corridor, she aims to broaden her service area. Nair’s passion for starting a business, coupled with the increased demand for cleaning services during the pandemic, fueled her entrepreneurial spirit, inspired by the success of other women in business.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, developed a deep love for sports and health during her high school years. Her journey into fitness transformed into a mission to help others improve their lives through physical activity. With over ten years of experience and multiple certifications, she established a gym that fosters the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of confidence and resilience gained through fitness.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, the founder of Atelier 153 and the Innovation in Construction Hub, expressed her dedication to sustainability and innovation in construction. She seeks to leverage local and indigenous expertise to address infrastructural challenges and promote new product development within Fiji’s construction industry.
